The difference between them is the type and amount of training that each profession receives. This training will affect how each person approaches therapy and patient care in general. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who went to four years of medical school to learn about all the different fields of medicine from obstetrics to pediatrics and additionally 4 or more years of residency training to specialize in psychiatry.
